Work Home Jobs

Fire your boss and work from home.

If you’re looking for a list of the top work from home jobs then you’ve come to the right place. It is possible to make money from home, but you need to look in the right places.

7 Top Work From Home Jobs

Home-Based Call-Center Agents

Some companies are moving toward home-based call center agents to support their traditional brick-and-mortar call centers. The companies save money by not having to expand their brick-and-mortar call centers and are able to hire additional home-based agents during busy periods.

Your duties may include  order taking, ticketing, general customer service, tech support, customer support, and live chat. If you go this route then you will probably need to be hired through an outsourcer rather than the actual company itself.

Before you rush off to find a home-based call center job be aware that there is a lot of other people with the same idea. Kate Lister and Tom Harnish in Undress for Success, stated that one particular call center outsourcer hires about 4,500 people a year out of the 150,000 applicants.

Virtual Assistant

Why Would You Want to Work From Home?

A virtual assistant’s duties typically include proofreading, building presentation, book keeping, data entry, scheduling appointments, and any other general assistance task. To be successful at this you must have administrative experience and excellent time management and organizational skills.

Personal Concierge

A personal concierge is much like a virtual assistance except that you serve residential clients rather than executives. Other terms for personal concierge are residential concierge or lifestyle manager.

You will basically be doing things for clients that they can’t (or don’t want to) do for themselves. With this type of job you can expect anything from plan and running parties, manage estates, organize homes, or just about any other random task that someone wants done but doesn’t want to do for themselves.

Virtual Teacher or Tutor

Internet-based learning is rapidly growing as is the demand for virtual teachers. Most states require the same certification as traditional in-class teachers for grades K thru 12. If you want to go the college route, most universities will require graduate degree, prior experience in teaching, and field experience.

If you want to be a virtual tutor the pay not be as good but you also don’t need the same certifications or qualifications. You will need a good resume and references to get parents and students to sign up. Most online tutor services also require a background check.

Direct Selling

I’m sure you’ve heard of Amway, Avon, Tupperware, and Herbalife. Well these are some examples of direct selling. In direct selling you are selling products directly to customers instead of a brick-and-mortar retail store. Many direct seller companies use multi-level marketing strategies (aka pyramid scheme). Direct Selling definitely isn’t for everyone but some make a good living at this.

Freelancer

If you have skills in areas like IT, Data service, writing, marketing, graphic design, legal, translators, financial management, project management, administrative, or customer service you can hire out your skills as a freelancer.  Websites like odesk.com, peopleperhour.com, elance.com allow companies to post work for freelancers to bid on. I go into more detail on the pros and cons of being a freelancer in Home Based Internet Jobs.

Internet-Based Business or Blog

Many people have been able to supplement their income or quit their regular jobs by running successful internet-based businesses or blogs. Many of these people are not IT wizards either. Most of these successful people are able to turn their hobbies and passions into online income without strong IT skills.

If this interests you then I recommend trying a program like Wealthy Affiliate. They have an amazing program for helping beginners learn how to turn their passions and hobbies into successful online businesses and blogs. They also have a Free Starter Membership for those who want to test the waters first.

If you want more information on Wealthy Affiliate then you can read my review here.

My Word of Caution

I listed the top home based jobs, however there are certainly others out there. There are also a lot of scams too. Don’t get sign up for anything until you’ve done some research first. Some are making a lot of money by luring people like you into promises of easy money. Just do your due diligence first no matter how enticing the company or recruiter’s sales pitch is.
